Changes soon to the gym

The committee has decide to rearrange the gym equipment in the upstairs level of the new boatshed.  This will occur in the next four weeks.  The basic aim is to have the ergs nearer the balcony and the lifting equipment near the change rooms without in any way blocking access to them.  One benefit will be that it will be a simple matter to completely clear that part of the room nearest the balcony for meetings or social functions.  If you have any questions or suggestions about this please contact Ryan Barraclough at ryanbarra@hotmail.com

National Masters results

A contingent of more than 40 MRC members and supporters headed north last weekend for the National Masters Championships at Kawana Waters on the Sunshine Coast.  Conditions were variable to put it mildly.  There were periods of perfect water and some of pretty wild weather though not as rough as Sydney copped last Sunday.  As you can see from the attached pointscore Mosman placed third in the point score out of over 90 clubs.  The clubs that finished first, second and fourth (Toowong, Canberra and Powerhouse) had significantly more entries than Mosman so it was a pretty impressive result.  The NSW State 8 (made up entirely of MRC members) finished third to Queensland and Victoria.  I have also attached the summary report that Rowing NSW has prepared

A generous donation

Our club president, Will Liley, has donated $19,000 to the club.  This money was originally a loan to finance the purchase of the Empacher 4 pending the sale of the Amy Clay Filippi 4.  However, now that the female development squad has found the Amy Clay suitable for them, that boat will not be sold.  Will’s loan was to be repaid by the club upon the sale of the Clay but he has decided to forgive the debt and, in effect, donate the $19k to the club.  Thank you, Will.

This has been working pretty well.  Thank you to all those who have helped so far.

Long weekend viewing

With the long weekend, some of you may have time to watch this video.  It’s of a Russian weightlifter who some years back won an Olympic silver medal and a world championship in the heaviest division.  The footage was taken last year in the US at the World Championships.  Things I like about it are (i) the Mutant Ninja Turtles t-shirt (ii) he warms up properly (iii) he’s obviously worked as much on flexibility as strength (iv) his technique is excellent (v) he’s not easily distracted, and (vi) he is immensely strong.
