The year ahead

With the variable weather and short days many members, particularly the masters, are spending less time on the water.

So, it’s probably a good time to think about grand plans for the next 12 months. Here is a draft calendar for the next year or so based on published dates and the usual months for some of the well-known regattas.

If you are interested in the JB Sharp series in July let me know ASAP. It’s quite possible that an MRC trailer will be going to each JB Sharp regatta.

Appeal from Tamar Rowing Club in Launceston, Tasmania

We have received the email below from Tamar Rowing Club in Launceston. They copped a beating from the same weather pattern that belted NSW and Queensland almost three weeks ago. It’s that time of year when many people think of making donations particularly to their own club (see club secretary Jenny Wilson’s earlier email ). Nevertheless, in the spirit of rowing club solidarity I am happy to send this on.

As you may be aware, our club has been virtually destroyed by a flood.
There are photos on the Australian Masters Rowing and Tamar Rowing Club’s Facebook site
Could I ask if you could raise the possibility of assisting us financially.
We will, at the minimum, have a substantial excess to meet on our insurance.
Would you please share the message below with the membership of your State’s clubs asking for any donation of funds that can be made.
There is a link for a tax deductible donation
Many thanks.

PLEASE HELP US!

We have had significant damage to our club over the past few days in Launceston- Tasmania, and it looks like it will continue for several more tides. This means we can’t even get in yet to clean up. By the time we can, it will have been 5 days of water up to 5ft in depth throughout the club for most of that time….
This leaves the building in pretty bad shape! We are not even sure what has gone, because when the roller door and windows went, things got sucked out! Fortunately we were able to evacuate many boats, and little damage has been done to the remaining ones. However our gym and club facilities are ruined.
We are going to struggle to rebuild Tamar, a club that has been in existence in Launceston since 1876. (For a full insight into what we had and our history, go to the Tamar Rowing Club website)
Over the past few years we have fundraised to remodel our kitchen, have replaced our bathroom/change rooms and spent time and money on painting, fixing the roof and new curtains. All that is now gone. I am a 4th generation member of the Tamar Rowing Club and I know I speak for all when I say we are like a family and the club is our second home.
If you are able to help you can make a tax deductible donation through the link below:
