Hi All

Trivia Night

captains-blog-290716-triviaThe Trivia Night is at the club tomorrow week, Saturday, 6 August, between 6.30pm and 9.30pm.

80 tickets have been sold already and we want to hit at least 120!   Remember that all proceeds will support our younger national representatives.
Please buy tickets or, ideally, a table of 8 here.  Tickets are only $30 (or $25 for students)
If you can’t attend, then please consider making a donation by buying a ticket then notifying Mark Connaghan at markaconnaghan@hotmail.com that you have done so but will be a no show.  This will keep catering costs down.
Some members have generously donated prizes for the auction and raffle.  Please consider doing this also.  Donors will be thanked on the night and in a subsequent 4 & 8.
See you there.

Rowing in Rio

The Olympic Games start next Friday, August 5. I’ve attached the rowing program which starts on Saturday, 6 August.  As Rio is currently 13 hours behind Sydney racing will start at 9.30pm Sydney time each day.
I am investigating ways of getting the rowing onto the TV in the old club house.  Details to follow.
You will have heard about the AUS W8+ replacing the Russians in Rio.  More details about all the Mosman connections with the rowing in Rio will follow next week.  In the meantime here is a nice article about Gen Horton from today’s Telegraph

Gym closed this Sunday afternoon for a private function

Please note that the gym will be closed for a private function this Sunday afternoon (July 31) between 2.30pm and 7.30pm.  To be clear, it will not be possible to use the gym during this period.

Head of the Yarra

So far two crews have committed to row in the 2016 Head of the Yarra on Saturday, 26 November.  These are the E8 which won their division convincingly last year and the YarraBenders Mixed E8 which has had a number of wins in recent years.
It’s a wonderful event, 8.5km up the Yarra River from the Melbourne CBD to Hawthorn.  Some clubs such as Leichhardt regularly send at least 5 crews and make a fantastic weekend out of it.
Other mens masters crews are forming.  Please discuss with your regular rowing buddies whether you should form a crew and let me know if would like to race.  We have four months to train.

Thanks

Jim Aroney has recently done a lot of work fixing or replacing floodlights and preparing for a fire safety inspection.  Thank you, Jim.

Wombat Awards

To the people who managed to hit boats near the pontoon recently even though the channel is the widest it’s been in ages.
Also, another one to me for failing to lock the tinny compound after doing a fill-in LTR coaching session last Sunday.  Nick saved the day once again a few hours later.
